Indian Shanty Towns

These pictures began with newspapers which I collected around India.  I loved the different scripts and I soon started to imagine how I could use them to depict high rise buildings.  Thepictures need to be viewed large size as they contain lots of signs, notices and fragments of newsprint which convey messages about the extremes of wealth and poverty in India today.  I also add little printed items to make the scenes interesting.  You can keep finding more things to look at in any one picture. I have experimented with frames, distressing them in various ways and recently embedding Indian coins in them. Up until now I have created and sold nearly thirty Shanty Towns.  They are all different, even though some of the elements appear in many of them. These pictures have proved very popular and I got lots of commissions as spin-offs from the first ones I put in exhibitions.
